Children and even adults are prone to choking. It is also one of the leading causes of sudden death in children.

Food is the most common hazard. Toys come next. When these items are swallowed, they may remain in the throat or windpipe and block the flow of air causing choking. For children who are unable to speak, it is difficult to find signs if they are choking. Generally, when hands are clutched to the throat, it signals that they may be choking. Moreover, these are other indications of choking: difficulty or noisy breathing, coughing, skin or lips are turning blue, and loss of consciousness.

When someone is in this situation, it is important to provide a Heimlich maneuver or abdominal thrusts. This is provided in the First Aid CPR training in The Bronx, New York. This is done by wrapping the rescuer’s arms around the waist of the patient and grasping the first with the other hand and pressing it hard in the person’s abdomen upwards. Without proper training, it would be difficult to perform such a life support approach.

To avoid risks, everyone is encouraged to educate themselves on proper life support methods including ACLS Training in New York, which can help a person in a sudden cardiac attack.

There are many certification services that you may learn in order to save lives or any medical emergencies, that is when the rescuers are unable to arrive earlier. You don’t have to be a professional to save lives, all you need is to be certified.
